Whenever a link to your site can be embedded within content rather than simply pasted in a "Links" page, it will improve the status of the link. Search engines love links that are integral to content. If you want a link to a great site, offer to provide them some content they could use on their site and include your link in it. Canine Heartworms - What All Dog Owners Need to Know

Heart worms, technically known as Dirofilaria immitis, are small parasites that often infect their host through a mosquito bite and then spread from one animal to another. What Breeds are Affected by Canine Heart Worms?

It was once believed that short-haired breeds were more easily infected by heartworms. The reasoning behind this was because the parasite bearing mosquitoes that infect the dog have a very hard time biting a long-haired dog through the extra hair.

It was later discovered that mosquitoes actually bite canines in the stomach area where the hair is fine. With this knowledge, it is now known that all types of dogs are susceptible to the canine heartworm disease. It is also common for dogs to suffer from mosquito bites on their ears or their mouth and nose because these areas typically have little hair as well.

How Are Canine Heart Worms Treated?

When a canine heartworm infection is noticed early, a series of chemical treatments can be used to treat the disease. These treatments are administered over an extended period so the worms are killed slowly, rather than all at once. The dead heartworms remain in the dogs body and usually take several weeks to be absorbed. Too many of these carcasses can create serious, often deadly, complications. Any type of chemical therapy can be dangerous to your dog as well if it is not handled by a professionally licensed veterinarian. Always allow your vet to perform these procedures and follow his instructions closely.

Dogs living in warm, moist climates, especially near the Gulf Coast or tropical areas, should be given the treatments year round because mosquitoes are common in every season.

These preventive canine heartworm medications can cause severe, often fatal, complications if your dog is already infected with the parasite. For this reason, it is very important for your dogs safety that you consult with a veterinarian before starting any sort of heartworm treatments. Regular blood tests, along with an appropriate preventive treatment, can protect your dog from the dangers posed by canine heartworms.

The American Eskimo Dog is loving, alert, beautiful, agile, highly intelligent, friendly, social, curious and strong. She makes an excellent protective watch dog but is not threatening or aggressive. It has a white or cream straight outer coat, with dense undercoat. There is a lion appearance as the coat is longer and thicker around the chest and neck. It has a thick tail carried on the back. Blue eyes in this breed is considered a defect and a problem of ill health or bad breeding.

She will do well in an apartment as long as she can get frequent long walks. A properly fenced yard is always preferable. She was bred to be a family dog and they need plenty of family attention. She is excellent with children. Of course, never leave very young children alone with any dog for any length of time, long or short, without adult supervision.

The American Eskimo Dog is often called a Spitz in America. The Spitz refers to a group of breeds, not an individual breed. He is also nicknamed the Spitz, which again is not a breed but a group of breeds including the Pomeranian, Samoyed, Shiba Inu, Siberian Husky and Finnish Spitz.

Approximate Adult Size

There are three sizes of the American Eskimo Dog, Toy, Miniature and Standard. The Toy runs from 9 to 12 inches to the withers (tallest point of the back), the Miniature runs 12 to 15 inches to the withers and the Standard runs 15 inches to19 inches to the withers.

Special Health Considerations

The American Eskimo Dog derives from the ancient Spitz family. Hailing from the coastal regions Germany, these dogs were traded throughout Europe. The Mastiff was bred to be a dog that participated in war. They are gentle giants but do not get them aroused. They make natural guard dogs and watch dogs and will protect the family with their life. Actually, just seeing a Mastiff will deter everyone but the dumbest crook. They do not need a great deal of exercise and can be lazy. Even though they do not tend to roam they should be controlled at all times in public. They can do well with other dogs if they have been extensively socialized when very young. Approximate Adult Size

The approximate adult size (two years old or older) of the Mastiff is 27 to 31 inches to the withers (highest point of the shoulder) and 150 to 190 pounds.

Most dog breeds have certain inherited health problems associated with that specific breed and the Mastiff is no exception. The Mastiff has a short haired, smooth coat. She should be brushed regularly. Brushing will help her maintain a clean and healthy coat and help you keep a closer eye on her health and strengthen your emotional bond with her.

Her teeth should be brushed at least twice a week with toothpaste and toothbrush designed for dogs. Brushing removes the accumulation of plaque and tartar which can cause cavities (rarely) and periodontal disease. Dog periodontal disease can lead to pain, loss of teeth, bad breath and other serious disease.

Her toenails may need to be examined for growth and clipped regularly. The toenails of the rear feet grow slower than the toenails of the front feet. Generally a guillotine type trimmer is the best for this chore and competent instructions to accomplish this can be found on the net.

Where exactly do you get a title at? The Lion is the King of the Jungle right? How cool is that? If I had one it probably would not be so flattering, alright now keep the wise cracks to you self! Knowing my friends I can guarantee it would be less than flattering. This brings me to an animal that has been given a title with some authority. The Gopher Tortoise, Nature's Landlord or maybe the Landlord of the Sand hills, either way it's definitely better than the moniker that I would probably end up with. The Gopher Tortoise is an obligate burrower with very stout and strong limbs. Its' claws are wide and flat with small protective scales extending up the tortoises shovel like front legs.

Their burrows can be up to 40 feet long and 10 feet deep, descending at a 30 degree angle. The width of the burrow is usually the length of tortoise, allowing for it to turn around in any section of the burrow. The male Gopher Tortoise can have an average of 17 burrows while the female maintains an average of 9, but it's common to have more than one tortoise sharing the same burrow. Fellow tortoises are not the only species that share the burrows, in fact not even close. The title Nature's Landlord comes from the fact up to 360 different animal species seek refuge in the tortoises burrow.

The list includes the gopher frog, the Florida mouse, opossum, indigo snake, pine snake, armadillo, burrowing owl, gopher cricket, scarab beetles, the Florida Scrub-jay and many others. The Gopher Tortoise is cold blooded averaging 10 inches long and up to 9lbs, its' life span ranges from 40- 60 years but in captivity can live more than 100 years. This particular tortoise belongs to a group of land tortoises that originated in North America nearly 60 million years ago and out of the nearly 23 species known to have existed on this continent as little as 4 species remain today. Once a year the female tortoise will lay an average of 6 eggs depending on their body size and it takes approximately 100 days for the eggs to incubate.

The gopher tortoises have temperature dependent sex determination, if the temperature of the sand is above 30 degrees the hatchlings will be female and below 30 degrees they will be male. The male tortoise has a concaved plastron (bottom shell) with a protruding plastron under the tortoises chin while the female's bottom shell is perfectly flat.

When the tortoises head and neck are completely retracted into the shell, the tortoise is generally safe from most predators. Although the tortoise has some natural threats like disease and climate, humans are the main cause for the decline of this species. In a list ranging from road mortalities to habitat destruction human interaction has played a major role in bringing this gentle herbivore closer to extinction. Florida has the gopher tortoise present in all 67 counties which has it on the list as a species of special concern.

Other states like Georgia, Louisiana. And Alabama have them listed as a threatened species but South Carolina and Mississippi have the tortoise on the endangered species list. The Gopher tortoise is an important part of the ecosystem and some of the species that share its burrows could not exist without them. Archeologists have uncovered prehistoric sites thousands of years old with snow goggles in them. 4) I highly recommend kennel training dogs so that they have a safe, comfortable place to be when you are gone. I have had dogs who were kennel trained and dogs you weren't and I have to say that I would never have a dog that wasn't kennel trained again. They like the safety of the kennel and even if they are house trained, if you are gone for many hours or they don't feel well, then having them confined to a kennel really saves your sanity.

In 1967, the government of South Africa minted the gold krugerrand to increase the marketing of South African gold. Although the krugerrand is considered as legal currency, it is seldom used for that purpose. Instead, it has become a favorite of coin collectors all over the world, known as "medal coins." This was the first coin to be valued at the monetary value of gold. For example, a U.S. silver dollar is worth exactly one dollar unless it is unusual in some way that makes it more valuable to collectors. The krugerrand was originally a one-ounce piece of 22 carat gold with no monetary value imprinted on it; its value is based upon the market value of gold that frequently fluctuates. Today krugerrands are made in a variety of weights, including half-ounce, quarter-ounce and one-tenth ounce. Since the krugerrand is considered to be a form of gold bullion, it was once illegal for American citizens to own them privately. But when the South African government declared them as legal tender, that prohibition ceased. Still, because of the practice of apartheid in South Africa, many Western countries made them illegal to import until South African political changes occurred in 1990-1994. An executive order to this effect was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan.

The krugerrand is easily identified by its picture of Paul Kruger on one side, a Boer resistance leader and four-term President of South Africa. On the other side is a picture of a springbok antelope, one of the national South African symbols. The words "South Africa" and the krugerrand's gold weight are printed on the coins both in English and Afrikaans.

Buying krugerrands is like investing in any other type of gold. For instance, if you invested in purchasing several krugerrands in the 1980's, the market value of gold was around $600 per ounce. When gold prices jumped in early 2008, gold ounces sold for around $1,000 per ounce. Your krugerrands, then, will fluctuate in value as gold does. How effective is automated trading?

Do you remember the TV series Lost in Space and in particular do you remember the name of the robot? If you answered "Robby" you are totally incorrect. I will tell you why a little later.

During the 1950s many scientists and engineers were working on the development of robotics and there were a good many science programs and documentaries that lead us to believe that we would by the 21st Century have most of our menial work carried out by robots.

In November, 1971, a company called Intel publicly introduced the world's first single chip microprocessor, the Intel 4004 (U.S. Patent #3,821,715), invented by Intel engineers Federico Faggin, Ted Hoff, and Stan Mazor.

This invention would be crucial to the development of robotics, and indeed today there are "robot controls" in more areas of our life than we may imagine. A good deal of our menial factory work is indeed carried out by robots ' and they do an exceedingly good job.

Yet despite the gargantuan progress in the development of robotics, I still do not have a robot that can stand behind me as I consider placing a trade who will shrill out "WARNING, WARNING, WARNING" whilst waving it's arms in the air. Nor is any of the housework undertaken by robot in my house - and there is a reason for this.

Even the most mundane task around the house requires an extraordinary amount of decision making. Just because we do not consider plugging in a vacuum cleaner to be difficult, it belies the amount of brain function required to achieve that "simple" exercise.

I have, over the years, experimented with many automated trading systems and my personal experience has been very disappointing. Since no one has yet managed to develop a robot that can carry out some very routine household tasks ' should I be surprised to find that there doesn't appear to be a robot that can make the very exacting and varied judgement calls required of the forex trader?

There are of course automated trading aids that can enter a trade when a set of pre-defined criteria is met, but that is a long haul from fully automated trading.

Traders often ask me about "set it and forget it" fully automated trading systems as if such systems were a reality. Be assured that they do not yet exist. If they did, I for one would be using one to make money while I went out and played golf instead of sitting in front of my PC for hours each day.

If such systems actually existed there would be no "Trading Houses" employing analysts and traders, just rooms full of PCs automated to make money.

How many banking institutions would have closed their investment departments and dismissed their staff in favour of such automation?

No, I am afraid that like the Robison family, automated trading is - at least for the foreseeable future - Lost in Space. So for those of you who want to make money from trading on the foreign exchange I guess that like yours truly, you will need to keep on studying those charts.

Oh, and for those of you that are still wondering about the name of the robot........

The original television series NEVER gave the robot a name, so it is simply referred to as "Robot." Dick Tufeld provided the voice and actor Bob May actually "worked" the Robot from inside. Many people mistakenly call the robot "Robby" -- which is actually the name of the robot from the 1956 movie "Forbidden Planet."

Both robots, strangely enough, were designed by the same man -- Robert Kinoshita.

If you are new or a novice to Forex trading systems, you will need to develop an appropriate strategy that will evolve over time. The following steps outline the approach to building a Forex trading strategy that may be adapted and tailored to your needs.

Develop a Forex Trading Plan - A Forex trading strategy should never be considered absolute or complete. Part of having a Forex trading strategy is incorporating a plan for making adjustments to the strategy. You will need to be able to make adjustments without completely revamping your strategy. Though you may consider your trading strategy to be more technical than fundamental or vice versa, you should take advantage of any available market data in making your trading decisions regardless of which discipline it falls under.

Initiate a Forex Trade - You must decide on the currency pairs that you which to trade and the number of units to trade. You must establish either a buy or sell position. You are then ready to initiate a trade as either a market order or a limit order. A market order initiates a trade at the current market price while a limit order permits a trade to be executed when the market price reaches a limit that is predetermined by you. As a safeguard for online trading, particularly with limit orders, you should also establish limits to take profits or stop losses. Take profit and stop loss limits become particularly important with online trading when your Internet connection is loss. In the time it will take to reestablish a connection, the market price may change and fall outside of any established limits. Your trading platform may be able to calculate a suitable set of limits. Limits are set as either the percentage of the trading range or as distance from the market entry price. If you have established an open position, you may adjust these calculated values to suit your needs.

Determine When to Exit a Forex Trade - If a trade moves in favor of your established position you must evaluate the move. In a long position, a move is considered significant if it is in the range of 15 to 20 pips. In response to such a move, it would be advantage to raise your stop-loss limit above the market entry price and your take-profit limit by about 20 pips or the number of your choice. If the trade continues to move in your favor you should continue to raise the stop-loss and take-profit limits. This aspect of a trading strategy allows you to continue to generate profits while the market is working in your favor. Unless, for some reason, you feel you need to manually exit the trade, you should not exit the trade until the market reverses to trigger your stop-loss order. A take-profit limit should not be used to signal an exit from the trade.

If a trade moves against your established position, you have two options. You may manually exit the trade before your stop-loss limit is reached or stay in the trade until either the stop-loss or take profit limit triggers an end to the trade. It would not be beneficial to lower the stop-loss limit with the expectation that the market price will reverse for a short period of time. While such a reversal is possible, the odds of this type of market action are low and your Forex trading strategy should not depend on this type of anomaly.

History of the Forex Market

Money, in one form or another, has been used by man for centuries. At first it was mainly gold or silver coins. Goods were traded versus other goods or against gold. So, the price of gold got a reference point. But as the trading of goods grew among nations, moving quantities of gold around places to settle payments of trade became cumbersome, risky and time consuming. Therefore, a system was sought by which the payment of trades could be resolved in the seller's local currency. But how much of buyer's local currency should be equal to the seller's local currency?

The answer was simple. The strength of a country's currency depended on the amount of gold reserves the country preserved. So, if country A's gold reserves are double the gold reserves of country B, country A's currency will be twice in value when exchanged with the currency of country B. During the first World War, in order to meet the tremendous financing needs, paper money was created in quantities that far exceeded the gold reserves.

After the cease of World War II the western allied powers tried to resolve the problem at the Bretton Woods Conference in New Hampshire in 1944. In the first three weeks of July 1944, delegates from 45 nations gathered at the United Nations Monetary and Financial Conference in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire. The delegates gathered to discuss the postwar recovery of Europe as well as a number of monetary issues, such as unstable exchange rates and protectionist trade policies. In the early 1940s, the United States and Great Britain developed proposals for the creation of new international financial institutions that would stabilize exchange rates and promote international trade.

The delegates at Bretton Woods arrived at an agreement known as the Bretton Woods Agreement to establish a postwar international monetary system of convertible currencies, fixed exchange rates and free trade. The United States, under President Nixon, retaliated in 1971 by devaluing the dollar and pushing realignment of currencies with the dollar. The heading European economies tried to counter the US move by adjusting their currencies in narrow band and then float jointly against the US dollar.

As the share price rises, ratchet up the stop-loss so that it is always 5% below the value of the shares. The 5% level is indicative only. You must determine your own level of risk for each share trade you make.

The best traders in the world know the power of a disciplined trading approach that incorporates stop-losses into every trade. For example, if you made 20 trades, and out of those 20 trades, 10 were losses, you can still make money. How can you make any money when 50% of your trades are losses? Well consider this. 10 trades lose the maximum of 5%

Not enough traders are utilizing the benefits of point and figure charts in the forex market. I don't why that is. Maybe it's due to the relatively young nature of the forex market. Or perhaps it's due to the global nature of forex trading and the predominance of traders outside of the United States.

Point and figure charts were first applied in the U.S. by Charles Dow, of the Dow Jones Company. Dow applied point and figure charts in the late 1800's to stock price movements. Since then, the method has been used by savvy stock traders throughout the decades, but it's never caught on like other charting methods such as bar charts or candlesticks.

Even fewer in the forex trading world have used the point and figure method to trade currency pairs. There seems to be a willingness to study and adopt more complex and subjective methods such as Fibonacci retracements, Ichimoku clouds, and Gann projections to name a few. But these methods of analysis leave a lot of room for judgment and interpretation. In short, many of the technical methods in the forex market are subjective.

I encourage forex traders to start studying point and figure charts, which are the most objective and precise charts in the world. There's no room for judgment or interpretation when it comes to determining a buy or sell signal on point and figure charts. It's a "black and white" or "yes or no" type of question. Either a currency pair is on a buy signal, or it's not.

With point and figure charts, buy and sell signals are determined by examining a currency pair's movement. That's it. Time does not factor into the equation. Moreover, point and figure charts use a filtering technique to minimize the randomness that is associated with currency pairs. The filtering technique is called a three box reversal. A currency pair's movement is considered meaningful, i.e. worth charting, only if it's of a magnitude greater than three boxes. All other movements are considered too small, or too random, to be worth charting.

A buy signal is generated when the current column of X's exceeds a previous column of X's. But this buy signal can take place over many different intervals, depending on the box size of the point and figure chart that is being used. For instance, a day trader might use a very small box size chart when trading the EUR/USD, a box size on the order of five or ten pips. A long-term trend following trader, by contrast, might use a much larger box size of 100 to 200 pips.

A sell signal is generated when the current column of O's drops below a previous column of O's. But like the buy signal, a sell signal can occur across various intervals, depending on the box size in use.

Trading currency pairs with point and figure charts is an entirely unique and objective approach to profiting in the forex. Forex Trading - The Scientific Theory of Market Movement

Human nature is constant and never changes and there have been several theories developed that are designed to take advantage of this; by utilizing a scientific theory of market movement - lets look at how they work.

The three most popular theories are based upon the theories of:

W D Gann, N Elliot and his Elliot wave theory and Fibonacci.

All claim to have found the scientific theory of market movement but there is a problem from the start:

The problem is a scientific theory needs to be TOTALLY objective.

If a theory is scientific by definition it must be rule based, objective and work all the time.

Do the above theories do this?

Not at all.

We will ignore the fact that Elliot died poor, Gann had to sell courses to make money and Fibonacci well, his theory is nothing to do with finance and has been hijacked by the far out investment community. Just look at the facts of the theories and how objective they actually are:

Elliot wave and Gann - Are totally subjective, they don't tell you what to do, you have to do it all on your own! - That not scientific if you have to think.

Fibonacci tells you exactly what retracements to buy and sometimes they work sometimes they don't. However you can take any percentage you like and like Fibonacci retracements it will work some of the time - does that sound like science to you? Well it doesn't to me!

So why Doesn't Science Work?

Quite simply because you are dealing with humans and they don't think scientifically.

Humans are creatures of emotion and were all different.

We do NOT all conform to a scientific theory. Of course if we did and there was a scientific theory of human nature we would all know the price in advance and there would be no market!

Markets move because their uncertain - So leave the scientific theories to the far out investment crowd, concentrate on making money and to make money you need to trade the odds.

Forget scientific movements and trade the odds - it's the only way to trade but if you do it correctly, you will make a huge amount of money over time.

Just like the professional card player you will hold and bet big, when the odds favour you and fold and take a loss when they don't.

A Free Forex Signal That Is Easily Overlooked

There is a free Forex signal which you can create on any charting package which is extremely powerful and yet often overlooked.

What is it?

Intra week highs and lows!

Why are these such powerful signals?

Just think what is going on in the market place. Thousands of traders and institutions the world over are engaging in the Forex market buying and selling currencies at certain levels.

The highest or lowest point a currency pair reached in the course of a 24 hour period is therefore a significant level. To get past that point the next day there has to be some momentum.

Often price will come to the previous day's high or low and pull back. It may later continue in that direction but so often it stalls at this level.

For those interested in scalping this presents a free Forex signal. It is often easy to grab 5, 10 or 15 pips from the market as price stalls at the previous day's high or low, or a high or low from the day before, or 2 or 3 days before.

This is not to suggest a trader can just wildly enter trades every time price approaches a previous high or low. Careful analysis is still important.

For example, does a Fibonacci calculation or a pivot point coincide with a previous high or low? Then it becomes a stronger level or support or resistance.

What is the candle formation around that level? Is there a hammer, a hanging man or doji candle indicating price exhaustion? Has price attempted to penetrate this level before and failed? If so, how many times?

These questions help the trader to analyze this free Forex signal and determine whether the level is likely to hold allowing for a high probability trade.

How To Use This Free Forex Signal

Depending on your charting software, mark each 24 hour period. Some charting packages include a demarcation option which shows each 24 hour period in a different shade vertically.

If your charting package does not have this facility it is still easy to do. Simply use the vertical line tool and put a vertical line at 12 midnight and another vertical line at the next 12 midnight.

Now identify the highest candle in that vertical section and the lowest candle and put short horizontal lines at each point. You can now see clearly the previous day's high and low.

The next day, leave the lines in place that you have already drawn, and now insert new vertical and horizontal lines for the last 24 hour period marking the high and low.

As the days progress you will eventually have highs and lows marked for the last week or so.

Then you can simply remove the oldest as the days progress depending on how many days you want to show with the highs and lows.

Now when studying your charts at the beginning of each trading session, the eye can easily pick up this free Forex signal and identify key levels of support and resistance and where price has already made attempts in the last few days to break through a previous high or low.

You can now apply your other technical indicators and determine where and how you will trade.

The Simpler The Better

While there are many sophisticated technical indicators and systems in the Forex world, the simplest are often the most effective.

existing market conditions and the future conditions too. The trader

should look at the current trend, compare it with similar trends from

last year or the year before and based on that judge how it will

Some of us use the terms stock 'investing' and stock 'trading' interchangeably. Trading also requires investment. But if you look closely, the two terms ' trading' and 'investing' will appear in different lights and with different connotations.

The element of wait is inherent in investment. You invest in the education of your children.

Though stock trading appears to be an alluring option for making quick money, most people fail to achieve their objective of becoming rich in short time. Rather than making money such people end up with losses.

It must, however, be noted that the reasons for failure to make money do not lie in the nature of stock trading itself. They lie with the traders. Stock trading, or, for that matter day trading is a full time business. It is not gambling. Stock trading is a very unpredictable business. If it could be predicted by rules, everybody would follow them and become rich. Of course, there are some basic rules, which must be learned and followed to start trading stock. But ultimately it is like the game of cricket. The players do not know which side, at which angle or at what speed or height the ball will come. Bollinger Bands Tells When To Trade And When To Fade Forex

Bollinger Bands are techniques that are created in the 1980s by John Bollinger. They are plotted lines that represent an upper and lower trading range for a particular market price. It is a guide for traders to see how the future market would go. Each of the line is the predictable range of the moving average. So, the currency pair is expected to trade within these limitations.

Bollinger Bands are used to determine when to buy or sell the market share. For example, buy a market share between the upper line and the lower line, which is unexpected, may not be a good deal. Normally the price will trade within the expectations (below the upper line and above the lower line). The directional trend is still useful to the traders even though a price is out of those limitations as those lines will widen accordingly.

Key features of Bollinger Bands:
1. A move starts when a line tends to reach the other line.
2. When the price is unstable, a sharp move will easily happen when the lines meet at an average level. Remember, the longer the unstable price takes, the higher the possibility a breakout may happens.
3. The current trend is usually maintained although there is a breakout as those lines will widen accordingly.
4. The top or a bottom (no matter inside or outside the lines) indicates the trend of market changing.

Configuration and Confirmations
To have a better result, withdraw two standard deviations from 20 periods simple moving average. However, there can be a variety of periods and standard deviations. A correct selection will provides a better and correct estimation.

Even though breakouts do happen, some breakout tends to restore within the lines range in a short while. If those breakouts represent a real market shift, the Bollinger bands will automatically widen accordingly.

The overall move is higher, but it's in a stair-step fashion.

By contrast, in descending channels, sellers are willing to let the pair rise only so far before stepping in and selling at lower and lower prices. You can use the various forms of support and resistance for identifying entry points, determining exit points for profit, and pinpointing exit points from losing trades. A Brand New Twenty-Sixty Life

My wife is a psychotherapist, and I'm a leadership coach (former therapist). We're in our fifties (her) and early sixties (me, although everyone swears I don't look like it), and you'd think we were in our mid-twenties.

We have these lives that defy our ages.

Five years ago we moved to a new town after turning loose three kids to succeed in the world. We gave up everything we were used to in order to start new careers (those mentioned above). We moved to an unfamiliar culture -- east coast, smoking, pentecostal, hyper, crowded -- from being westerners -- laid back, casually dressed, big sky. It was one hell of a switch.

We tell each other we "went off to college" to earn our informal degrees in midlife change. Don't get me started on how this isn't mid-life... it's only midlife if I'm going to live to be 124.

This return to school includes having an economical rancher instead of a ranch. No eating out hardly ever. Drinking cheap booze instead of the good stuff. Working way too many hours and doing work that absolutely requires the energy we had at twenty-five. The only thing that isn't the same is we don't have sex twice a day and stay up late while doing all that.

We talk about how tired we are sometimes, how we really aren't twenty-something. I pine for a more relaxed life where I fish every day, don't work much at all, have time to sleep late, maybe write a book. After all, aren't I at the age where I get to do that?

Nope.

Both of us are spiritual people. Not religious people, spiritual people. We believe in the God-ness (the alrightness) of everything. We even go to church, but not because we are into this religion or that. We just want to celebrate our connectedness with others.

In our spiritual selves, just between us and all-that-is, we have seriously committed ourselves to being of service, to making a difference, to bringing some love to this sore and scared world.

I'm finding out that means there is no such thing as "retirement". There is youthful service, no matter the age. There is the joy of major leaps and small gains; there is no such thing as "age-appropriate" behavior.

Shop until you drop? No. It's serve until you stop, sliding into home plate, glad and full of love, ready to find out what's next. It's stay excited about each day. It's treasure what you've got.

We have four grand-babies now, and a fifth on the way. That's a lot of wiggle in a room. My wife loves the puppy pile. I hyperventilate at some point and go fishing with a friend. But in the back of my mind, whether I'm fishing or working, I'm full of gratitude for this life I have.

I may be sixty-something, but I love my twenty-sixty year-old life. It's warm and full, and it's mighty alright.

What is a breakout?

A breakout is one that penetrates resistance or support to make a new high or low.

Why are they so good to trade?

The fact is that most big trends develop from new market highs or lows and this can be seen on any forex chart. How do you spot good ones to trade? Not every breakout of course develops into a trend - so you need to spot valid ones.

A valid breakout normally consists of 3 or more tests in two separate time frames. The more tests the better and the more time frames and wider they are apart, the more valid the breakout is likely to be. Why don't all traders make money with them?

Simple - just look at some momentum oscillators (we don't have time to discuss them here in detail simply check our other articles) and if they support the breakout go with it. When you do your stop it's obvious - just below the breakout point.

Despite the fact that breakouts work, most traders simply can't buy new highs and lows - but if you do you can make some great profits. You need to be patient though - good breakouts don't come around every day and you also need to confirm the move.

If you do the above, you can make money with breakout trading, sure its simple but don't be deceived - many of the world's top forex trading systems are based on breakout methodology.

Close short positions and reverse to a long position when a price exceeds the highs of the previous 4 weeks - reverse long positions and take a short position when a price falls below the lows of the previous 4 weeks.

Well you can't get simpler than that!

Test it and you will see it works as forex markets trend well.

The downside is of course when markets trend sideways the system will get chopped and incur losses. To cut drawdown You can alter the rule to:

Enter trades on the 4 week rule - but exit the position on a shorter time period and go flat. 1 or 2 week cycles are commonly used; you then look to re enter on the next 4 week signal. The beauty of the above as a currency trading system is its simplicity, making it very robust and profitable. Forex Trading Style - Trendlines Versus Horizontal Lines

In developing a personal Forex trading style it is likely a trader will experiment with numerous technical indicators over time but eventually end up with just a handful of favorites which are used on a daily basis.

The use of trendlines is taught in just about every training course out there and popular opinion seems to suggest they should take a reasonably prominent place in any successful Forex trading style.

This article begs to differ. Yes, trendlines can be useful but in my opinion they are superseded by horizontal lines.

What is the difference?

Trendlines are simply lines drawn across the lows of bars or candles in an uptrend, or lines drawn across the highs of bars or candles in a downtrend.

One Forex trading style may use the Tom DeMark method of drawing trendlines which gets very specific by joining the most recent low with the previous lower low (looking left on the chart) and then extending the line forward (looking right on the chart) for an uptrend.

For a downtrend join the most recent high with the previous higher high (looking left on the chart) and then extending the line forward (looking right on the chart). These trendlines then give indications of a breakout once they are broken.

Horizontal lines are simply lines drawn across highs and lows on a chart marking support and resistance.

Why are horizontal lines superior?

The ideal Forex trading style is simple and easy to use and it helps if the charts we are studying are clear and reasonably uncluttered.

Drawing numerous trendlines can obscure what is really happening with price action. True, some traders just draw trendlines across main highs and lows and ignore the mini swings. Nevertheless, trendlines have to be constantly re-drawn and updated as price action continues.

On the other hand, just putting in a horizontal line on key levels of support and resistance is simple and easy to see. They have great significance on the higher time frames, especially the 4 hour or the daily charts.

Of particular value is marking the previous day's high and low and watching price action around those levels. It is possible to catch 10 to 20 pips often as price tests the previous day's high or low and pulls back. Of course, the probability of a successful trade becomes higher if the previous day's high or low also coincides with other factors such as a Fibonacci level or pivot point.

Why are horizontal lines probably more significant than trendlines?

When developing your Forex trading style it is very important to look beyond candles. Trading is much more than that. The successful trader understands what is going on behind the scenes. Candles and price action is simply an outward manifestation of what is happening across the desks of thousands of traders across the globe who deal with billions of dollars worth of flows and orders.

A previous high or low in price action, especially on the higher time frame, means that the bulls or the bears won the battle in that trading session. If a number of traders committed a large amount of equity to a currency at a certain price, then obviously that price point is going to be fiercely defended in the future by those traders.

So horizontal lines drawn across levels of support and resistance mark very real points at which we can expect a reaction from price.

Trendlines on the other hand tend to be more speculative in my opinion. Watch price reaction at horizontal lines of support and resistance as opposed to trendlines and you will notice that price respects key levels of support and resistance more often than trendline levels.

Should trendlines be included in your Forex trading style?

That is an individual matter. They can certainly be helpful in offering confirmation of a trade after taking into consideration other factors. But to trade on trendlines alone can be very risky. On the other hand, it is possible to trade almost entirely on what support and resistance tell you at certain times when key levels are being tested.

Generally though, a successful Forex trading style will combine a number of factors. My favorites in order of importance are:

Support & Resistance levels on the higher time frames
Fibonacci retracement and extension levels
Pivot points
Candle patterns
200 EMA (Exponential Moving Average)

Be Calculated And Reflect Like A Poker Player: What you need to be is a cold calculated person. This means you're making trades with nothing more than numbers. Now, what I mean by poker player is from the point of reflection on a trade. If you ever played poker, you would have noticed that you made the best move, but just lost by the luck of the draw. You need to recognize this same thing with forex trading. If you make the best moves, but end up losing, recognize that you made a good move and 9 times out of 10 it would of gave you a profit. Conversely, if you make a bad move and it turns out to be profitable, recognize that you made a bad move and the majority of the time you would have lost.
Avoid Tiny Margins: If you're making small trades, for small profits than you're not going to do too well, because you're losing out on profit because your broker needs to be paid too. At least make trades that are of a decent size, so your profits aren't all taken by your broker.

Most successful Forex retail traders use a variation of the moving average indicator. It's one of the oldest technical indictors in existence, and its widespread popularity is mainly due to its simplicity and effectiveness.

What Is A Moving Average?

A moving average is basically the dynamic average of past market prices. It's dynamic in the sense that the moving average number will constantly change as time passes.

How Does A Moving Average Work?

To give you a better sense of how moving averages work, here's a simple example:

5, 7, 6

Above is a sequence of three numbers. The average of these three numbers is 6, right?

Now, let's say that the next number in the sequence is revealed to us:

5, 7, 6, 2

Because we're calculating the average of the latest three numbers, we have to drop the first number (i.e. 5), and use the more recent numbers 7, 6, 2 instead. The average is now 5. When the next number in the sequence becomes known, we will have to drop the earliest number of the three-number sequence (i.e. 7), and include the latest number to get a new average.

And this is basically how moving averages work, except that instead of random numbers we use historical market prices instead. You can of course specify the number of past prices to include in your moving average calculation. In a 20-day moving average for example, you would calculate the average based on the prices of the last twenty days.

What's The Significance Of A Moving Average?

A moving average indicator shows the general trend of the market. It is used to smooth out short-term spikes of price fluctuations. When the market is trading above the moving average, it is considered to be strong. When the market is trading below the moving average, it is considered to be weak. A good understanding of moving averages is essential to help you decide whether to enter or exit a trade.

The Low Cost Revolution

Throughout numerous consumer sectors, there are companies specialising in low cost goods and services. Everything from food to flights and cars to clothes can be bought at very low prices. As cost-focussed companies get bigger, they continue to find ways to reduce overheads in their operations and squeeze suppliers for better deals.
