Basic Tips for Caring for Your Bonsai Plants

More and more people are getting drawn to the finely cultivated beauty of bonsaitrees.cn/bonsai-care/images/medium_dish_giant_sequoia_bonsai_jpg.html">bonsaitrees.cn/bonsai-art/images/Exquisite_bonsai_as_art.html">bonsaitrees.cn/./bonsai-starter-kit.php">bonsai plants. Some may think that they are half-starved mini plants but they are actually carefully cared-for works of art. When caring for your bonsai plants, you should take note of some important tips.

Know Your Plant and Environment

Almost of all kinds of trees can be made into a bonsai plant, and the way you grow and care your bonsai plant is largely dependent on the species of tree it is made from. Tropical trees, for example, do not fare quite as well in cold temperatures and may require special care.

It may be easier for you if you pick a tree that grows well in the kind of temperature and environment in where you live. Like regular-sized trees, bonsai plants will adjust to the changes of the season in your area. Take note of the specific tree species that you pick. They may have even more specific needs according to their species.

Water Your Bonsai Properly

Bonsai plants do not have to be watered everyday but there are instances when they have to be. Watering frequency usually depends on the kind of tree, type of soil and the season. You may have to devise a watering plan specifically for your bonsai.

As a general rule, bonsai plants should neither be over watered nor under watered. Check the top of the soil with your fingers and nails. Moist top soil would mean it still contains some water. Dry soil is a definite sign that you have to start watering.

In some cases, bonsai owners water once a day in hot days and once every two days or so in cold days. This is not a hard and fast rule though. Your plant may have different water needs.

Grow Outside

If you live in cold regions and you have a tropical bonsai, you may have to devise some semi-indoor protection for your bonsai plant. However, generally, bonsai should be grown outside. Despite their appearance, they are not ornamental indoor house fixtures. Bonsai plants need sufficient sunlight. Otherwise they will get sick and may even die.

If you have a bonsai plant that is native to your place, then it may do well outside in the winter season. Just remember to provide protection for it in especially harsh days.

These are only basic beginner tips for would-be bonsai enthusiasts. If you are really intent on growing bonsai plants, you should seriously consider studying more in depth details about bonsai care. Important issues that need to be covered include pruning, wiring, re-potting, etc.

Tips For Spotting 5 Hot Cat Health Symptoms Needing Immediate Attention

No matter how much love and attention you give, felines experience cat illnesses. Recognizing cat health symptoms is challenging because, unlike their human caregiver, cats are rather stoic soldiers. They don't go around grumping when they have a belly ache.

Here are 5 Hot Cat Health Conditions that should alert you that your feline is fighting off sickness or injury.

#1-- A Loss of Appetite

Train yourself to be a responsive and observant caregiver. Take notice when a cat has stopped eating or skipped a meal. If your cat experiences trouble eating, drinking or swallowing, then there is a cause for concern. It is a big RED, FLASHING LIGHT that something is wrong.

A change or lack of appetite can happen slowly or suddenly. Recognizing a change in appetite can be complicated if food is left out for cats to share in a multi-cat household. Her appetite may be off because she is struggling with a hairball or she ate a bad mouse. Far worse, she consumed a poisoned mouse and she is now poisoned, or she is in the early stages of a serious illness like kidney disease or fatty liver syndrome.

When your cat misses a couple of meals it is time for a visit to the vet. Do not wait to see if she is going to suddenly start eating. The sudden drop in food intake causes damage to the liver. This turns into a vicious cycle where the cat won't eat because her liver is sick and no food intake aggravates the liver damage.

#2 -- She Is Lethargic

A noticeable change in your cat's energy levels is also a good indicator that something is awry. Cats do sleep a lot, as much as 18-20 hours a day. However, if you notice she has zero interest in her beloved toys or catnip, she is quietly telling you something is wrong. She has pain or a fever and feels lousy.

#3 -- She's Losing Weight

She probably isn't eating well. When cats are sick they stop eating. When you lift your cat does she feel lighter than normal? Weight loss goes hand-in-hand with loss of appetite, but it can also be a sign of kidney disease, thyroid disease, diabetes and cancer. Weight loss is considered a serious sign of cat illness and should prompt an immediate trip to the veterinarian.

#4 -- She's Drinking A Lot of Water (Urinating A Lot Too!)

Does she fall to sleep while drinking at the water bowl? The good news is that she's still drinking. A increased need for water leads to an increase in urine. Obviously the two are linked together. After all, if she takes a lot of water in, it has got to go out sometime. Common causes of excessive thirst and urination include kidney disease, diabetes and elevated thyroid levels.

#5 -- Urination Is Painful or Interrupted

When a cat strains using the litter box, has accidents outside the box, squats for a long time, cries, or repositions herself over and over, you have spotted a problem indicating one or more cat illnesses. If you could view her urine under a microscope, odds are you would find traces of blood.

Male cats may lick at the tip of the penis or suddenly lose his appetite, vomit or become very vocal during urination. More than likely he is experiencing a complete blockage. A male cat that is straining during urination is having a fire-alarm emergency. Get him to the vet pronto.

When a female cat strains during urination it may not be a complete blockage because her urethra (the tube that drains the bladder to the outside) is wider than a male cat's and is less likely to clog. However, if she can't urinate that means she can't eliminate her body's liquid waste. A blocked cat becomes ill in 24 hours and can die in 72 hours -- don't wait for the weekend to pass!

Your veterinarian can unblock the urethra by inserting a catheter. This removes the obstruction allowing the urine to drain. It is most easily accomplished with early detection of the problem.

Urinary problems can be caused by a number of things, including bladder stones in the urethra, dietary causes, bacterial infections and the least understood problem, feline lower urinary tract disorder (FLUTD). This illness can be related to stress or a virus similar to a human's cold sore.

Some cat illness can be handled with gentle care and love at home, but other conditions are potentially life-threatening requiring immediate medical attention. As a feline caregiver, there is a certain amount of on-the-job training, but delaying a trip to the vet or waiting to see if things improve can be expensive or even cost your feline her life.

Your relationship with your cat is what helps you get through your personal trials and rough times. If you lost her because you failed to recognize a life-threatening, but treatable condition would you always regret your ignorance? The answer is obvious isn't it?

Bottom line: Don't be shy about calling your vet. Also, find a trusted resource to coach you through cat behavior or cat care questions and your chances for having a delightful, loving and long-lived feline partner become a whole lot better.

12 Health Benefits of Meditation

Meditation is usually recognized as a largely spiritual practice, particularly in Eastern philosophies and religions. In the past few decades, as Western culture has been exposed more and more to meditation through the martial arts and some popular Eastern philosophies, it has also been found to have many health benefits. Westerners are also discovering that meditation is not as mysterious or difficult to do as many of us may have thought. And given the long list of benefits that a little meditation can produce, it may be worth it for you to look in to this ancient practice.

Some health benefits of meditation may include:

  • Lowering oxygen consumption.

  • Decreasing respiratory rate.

  • Increasing blood flow and slowing the heart rate.

  • Increasing exercise tolerance in heart patients.

  • Leads to a deeper level of relaxation.

  • Good for people with high blood pressure because it helps bring the B.P. down.

  • Reducing anxiety attacks by lowering the levels of blood lactate.

  • Decreasing muscle tension ( and any pain due to tension) and headaches.

  • Building self-confidence.

  • Helping in chronic diseases like allergies , arthritis, etc.

  • Reducing pre- menstrual Syndrome.

  • Enhancing the immune system.

  • How to Meditate:

You don't have to sit in some pretzel like position in a secluded monastary to do good meditation. Meditation involves sitting in a relaxed position and clearing your mind. You can do this on the floor or on a bench, or in a chair. Just don't use a chair that is too comfortable or you may fall asleep. You may focus on a repetitive sound, or by counting your own breaths, or by concentrating on nothing at all. It's necessary to have 5-20 distraction-free minutes to spend. It is helpful to have silence and privacy.

If you haven't tried meditation before you might find it useful. Give it a try and see what you think. Or, in the case of meditation, it's actually what you don't think that counts.

    Singers - Maintaining Your Health

Brace yourselves my fellow professional singers! We are in cold and flu season!

Whether you are a classical/opera singer like me, or into other forms of music, a singer has to be healthy first and foremost. We must develop and maintain good vocal health, using proper techniques and avoiding smoking, and excessive alcohol. We cannot be too careful when we make a living that depends on two little membrane folds (we call vocal chords) inside our throats.

It is ironic that many of us tend to have sinus or allergy problems that attack our livelihood. The symptoms always seem to flare up just when we have Midnight Mass and holiday concerts. So we have to be careful not to hurt our voices. But what do you do?

Luckily for me I have found the New Silver Solution by Nutronix International. Since I started using it 7 months ago, I have kept my allergies in check and had no sinus infections. I have always be plagued by sinus infections, but no more. This patented formula is safe and is a great first line of defense for any bacteria/virus. I partner it with Sub lingual B-12 and the Acai Berry to keep my immune system strong.

Then it is important to stay hydrated and to keep you body in PH balance as well. I love the o2 Proformance Hydration for this. But introducing whole foods into your diet is one of the best things you can do in the long run. Try natural sugar, whole wheat pasta, and grains. These small changes can even shed inches from your waistline-gotta look good on stage right?

Use your music to deal with your emotional issues during this time of year where memories and relationship issues are tough.

I like to say Singer Heal Thyself.

Of course having affordable health insurance is a big issue for professional singers. I have found some sites online that give competitive quotes for several companies at a time. If you are an AGMA member, they offer discount cards for your health needs. I think they are looking for a way to help insure members in the future.

AARP Health Insurance - Rip-Off Or Not

The AARP is a wonderful group that has been around for decades. They are dedicated to helping seniors discover benefits and services especially designed to help them. One of the benefits they offer is health insurance.

But not everyone is enamored with this group, especially with what AARP puts forwards as "health insurance." Some people go so far as to call the AARP Health Insurance plan a "rip-off." So let's investigate this health plan further.

The first thing to note is, the AARP is NOT an insurance agency. There is no such thing really as "AARP Health Insurance" per se.

The AARP is an organization, a club if you will. They don't sell their own health insurance, but instead refer you to an agency that does sell it. And through their referral, the AARP can get a premium discount at a group rate. But not always. It is possible to get cheaper insurance than what AARP can offer, if one looks around.

    But there's another issue.

The health insurance gotten through the AARP is not all comprehensive. I think that many people just make the assumption that all health insurance is comprehensive, covering all unforeseen medical conditions. But sometimes insurance is merely supplemental and doesn't cover everything, and the insured find out about this too late, when they need the insurance to pay for some major health problem. And the supplemental insurance won't always cover the problem. That's when the terms "rip-off" get thrown about. Some people claim the AARP is misrepresenting the insurance.

But in any health insurance policy, the consumer has to know in advance the coverage they are getting; what's covered and what isn't. They need to understand the policy, ask questions, do their homework. Many insured people today have no idea what their coverage entails.

I see that this year, AARP is offering an HMO through UnitedHealth, and a PPO through Aetna. In the past they've been instrumental in getting Congress to pass a Medicare Drug bill and a Social Security reform bill. This election year they plan to address more health care issues.

The bottom line is, to me the AARP is doing a lot to help people over 50 with their health care issues. Their website is loaded with info. But they are not, repeat not, an insurer.

So in summarizing, if you wish to get AARP health insurance, but may be afraid of the horror stories out there about this big tough lobbyist, I suggest you understand the policies they offer completely. Read and re-read their offers and find out what is and isn't covered. And understand that the AARP is not the ones writing policies and paying out insurance claims.

    Health Problems in Cats

Many health problems in cats can stem from something simple and preventable. By looking after your cat well and on a daily basis is a good start as you get to know your cats little habits. Once you know these, you can tell if everything is ok.

But there are other steps to prevent health problems in cats. Having a regular check up at the vets is very important. Your vet will check the heart of your cat and its general well being. As your cat gets older, other things may be checked. Blood samples will be checked to see if there are any problems and the stools of your cat will be looked at for worms. Any test like these will be able to detect any early signs of developing illnesses.

On a yearly basis, your cat will need to be vaccinated by the vet. A distemper shot will be given every year and a rabies shot will be given every two years. This is due to the number of wild and homeless cats who wander round and may come into contact with your pet. These vaccinations are important as many cats are known to die every year from distemper and rabies. Never try to administer the vaccine yourself and always allow the vet to do it as you could cause more problems.

Why is your cat always licking? We all know that this is how the cat keeps itself clean but what if the licking becomes excessive? If you notice that your cat is licking more than usual, then it may have a skin irritation or it may be stress. Cats that are stressed lick to calm themselves down. You can prevent this by making sure your cat has its own quiet place and make sure this place is kept very clean. If all the licking keeps going, consult your vet to run further tests.

It is not just long haired cats which suffer from hairballs. Even short haired cats can suffer. Daily grooming with a soft brush from you can limit the build up of cat hair which may go into the throat and stomach. It is easier to groom than it is to clean up cat vomit!

Ear mites can also cause health problems in cats. These are tiny parasites which may be found in the ear of the cat and can cause a distinctive smell. If you can get these mites at an early stage before they go right into the ear, you will be able to treat your cat at home. By checking on a weekly basis and keeping the ears of your cat nice and clean will make sure this risk is kept to a minimum.

Selling & The Art of The Bonsai Tree

A Japanese bonsaitrees.cn/bonsai-garden/questions.html">bonsaitrees.cn/bonsai-art/questions/just_curious_do_you_think_there_is_a_valid_argument_to_be_made.html">bonsaitrees.cn/bonsai-growing/questions.html">bonsai tree is a true marvel.

It is a tree, to be sure, but it has been cultivated to be a perfect dwarf, a miniature embodiment of the whole of nature.

So, when you perceive it, you dont see whats missing. Youre treated to whats there, which is very little, but still, its infinite.

Quite a trick, and thats what makes it both a tree, and art at the same time.

Selling, that is, thoroughly enjoyable and successful selling; consists of communicative bonsai trees, little gems of give and take.

    For example, imagine this scenario.

A customer gives you an objection, but instead of answering it at length, you simply respond with one word: Really?

In that second, that miniature of expression, youd be doing several things:

    (1) Expressing curiosity instead of condescension or hostility, which are defensive and alienating replies to objections;

    (2) Youd be conveying the idea that the person is off the mark; and

    (3) Youd entreat the prospect to elaborate, which might make him aware of his folly and provide you with more information that could assist you in intelligently replying to his concern or mistaken perception.

One tiny word can do all of that?

You might think that's hard to believe, or that one word can't be so all-powerful.

    Really?

What Is A Massive Heart Attack?

What is a massive heart attack, will be discussed in detail within this article.. We all know of someone who has suffered from a heart attack. The main purpose of this article is to shed more light on such a huge killer of so many Americans. I will reveal insight to you about this pandemic health problem.

    What is Coronary Artery Disease?

High cholesterol, cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, and a host of other risk factors can cause coronary artery disease. Coronary artery disease can eventually lead to gangrene, heart failure, heart attacks, and abnormal heart rhythms. This information on coronary artery disease will help build a foundation to your understanding of how heart attacks occur. The actual disease process or atherosclerosis is a chronic or progressive process. A myocardial infarction can be a result of an arterial blockage. A myocardial infarction means heart attack.

What Is The Result Of A Heart Attack?

If you have suffered a heart attack, then there's a certain amount of muscle death that has occurred. Heart failure is dependant on exactly how much muscle damage you've experienced. If you were lucky enough to survive the heart attack, whether heart failure ensues depends is dependant on the extent and severity of damage. Remodeling is the response from your heart muscle after a heart attack. The heart muscle remodels by stretching itself in an attempt to pick up the extra slack for the muscle that has been damaged. This stretching actually increases the force of contraction in normal muscle, thereby allowing it to do more work. Remodeling over a certain period of time causes the heart muscle to weaken and heart failure ensues.

Can Sudden Death After A Heart Attack Be Prevented?

A large number of individuals who survive a myocardial infarction die suddenly from Ventricular Arrhythmia's. Around 300,000 people die from these ventricular arrhythmias just in the United States. What is massive heart attack can be argued that it stems from a scar on the ventricular muscle after a heart attack that leads to electrical instability. This electrical instability may lead to ventricular fibrillation, or ventricular tachycardia. Ventricular arrhythmias are serious business, which can lead to loss of consciousness and death within a few minutes. The scary part is these arrhythmias can occur without warning in people who show no signs of a health issue. These heart attacks are often mislabeled by physicians as being myocardial infarctions. Less than 20% of these 300,000 yearly sudden deaths are related to acute myocardial infarctions, but the rest are due to ventricular arrhythmias. Heart attack survivors who are a high risk for sudden death can be identified, and after that their risk of dying from ventricular arrhythmias can be possibly eliminated.

    Bonsai Styles

Beginnings of growing bonsaitrees.cn/bonsai-maple/images/300px-BonsaiTridentMaple_jpg.html">bonsaitrees.com/detail.php?id=396">bonsaitrees.cn//bonsaibeauty/bonsai-art.html">bonsai trees go way back to Chinese tray scenery that started with Han dynasty 200 BC, that's about 400 years later than the great wonder of Hanging Gardens of Babylon, which was probably one of the first use of plants that was not meant for providing food.

Nowadays bonsai are still used for the same purpose, to decorate a room, house and buildings in general. People find it amazing that small plants like these can look so grown up, scarred and shaped as old oaks. But that is the art of bonsai. Every young tree can be shaped and raised however the gardener want and that gives them an amazing opportunity to create art from a living thing. Gardner's creations can be seen in bonsai exhibitions which are usually very well visited by gardening lovers. There are many ways that bonsai can be designed in the most common ones are formal upright style also known as Chokkan with straight upright trunk, slant style (Shakan) which is very similar to formal upright style but the trunk emerges at an angle, cascade-style (Kengai) bonsai are made out of a trees that grow near water or mountains, raft-style (Netsunari) is a special style where a tree is lays on one side and all the new branches that grow on that side look like new trunks, literati style is the most monotone because these bonsai have very few branches usually having just bare trunk, forest style which has more trees in one pot, root-over-rock style has roots that grow around the rock, broom style is used with trees that have a lot of leafs, multi-trunk-style is actually a style with only one tree but many trunks showing out of the soil and growing-in-a-rock where name tells us all.

There are many different ways to start growing up a bonsai so pick your favorite and start enjoying in your own creations.
