What is IVA or Individual Voluntary Arrangement?

Full and final IVA settlement or lump sum IVA settlement is a legal process where there is a contract between you and your creditor which cuts your debt to an affordable level and helps you come out of enough debt overhead and thus avoid the consequences of bankruptcy, CCJS.

To qualify for IVA you must have minimum debt of around 15000 form at least 4 or 5 creditors.

Based on your budget or income a single manageable monthly payment is fixed for 3-5 years, which cuts around 70% of our debt and let you debt-free.

Have a Look of how IVA settlement cuts your debt.

Suppose you borrowed 20000 from five creditors so called A, B, C, D and E, but can not afford to repay the loan, you are able to manage only 8000.

Amount borrowed from each Creditor

A 10000

B 3000

C 2000

D 4000

E 1000

After Full and Final IVA settlement you have to pay.

A 4000

B 1200

C 800

D 1600

E 400

Thus your debt is fixed to an amount, you can easily managed and become free.

We have already discussed about IVA which is legally binding and cuts around 70% of your unsecured debt

Similar to IVA, Debt Management Program is also an agreement between debtors and creditors but its not legally binding and the monthly transactions or payments are set by a commercial debt management broker, whereas full and final IVA is strictly formal.

Unlike IVA which runs for just 5 years and debtor gets free paying a partial negotiated payments and no further legal actions will be taken in future, In DMP the debt may be negotiated to a minimum partial amount but it may run for several years or may be the case you have to pay enough.

Thus the debt can be severely reduced in IVA, but it badly affects your credit history which appears for 6 years and will create trouble in getting loans or mortgages in future

But with DMP, once you have met your debt you are free to get further loans or mortgages.

If you are having enough debt and cant manage substantial monthly payments and not willing to borrow anything in future, then IVA will be the better option over DMP.

Adult Type 2 Diabetes - Some Facts About The Disease

Adult type 2 diabetes, also known as adult onset diabetes and non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, is the most common type of diabetes. It is estimated that about seven percent of the U.S. population suffers from the disease and it is the sixth leading cause of death. Having adult type 2 diabetes increases your risk for many serious and life altering complications including: Heart disease and stroke, nerve damage, kidney disease, kidney failure, vision problems, foot ailments, hypoglycemia, sexual problems, skin and oral infections and depression.

The treatment of adult type 2 diabetes varies from person to person. Whether you have other active medical problems, whether you have complications of diabetes, and your age and general health at the time of diagnosis are all factors. It must be understood that the disease is not going away and a life long regimen of monitoring blood sugar, eating healthy foods, exercise, oral medication and sometimes, the self-injection of insulin will have to be implemented. The goal is to keep your blood sugar level as close to normal as possible to delay or prevent complications. In fact, tight control of blood sugar levels can reduce the risk of diabetes-related heart attacks and strokes by more than 50 percent.

Diet is an important consideration when you find you suffer from adult type 2 diabetes. Many people wrongly believe that eliminating all their favorite foods and snacks will be necessary, but moderation is the key. Dietary guidelines for those with diabetes is similar to what is recommended for everyone, but with more emphasis on control of weight and blood sugar. It is important to eat a well-balanced diet with a variety of healthy foods, and implementing a good exercise program. Obesity is a leading risk factor for adult type 2 diabetes. Obesity is found in approximately 55% of patients diagnosed with the disease. Decrease your weight if it is too high. In addition to diabetes, obesity can lead to heart disease, stroke, hypertension, hypothyroidism, congestive heart failure, gout, pregnancy complications and many other problems.

Exercise is of primary importance in the prevention and management of adult type 2 diabetes. Exercise helps keep blood glucose levels down and has other health benefits, as well. Prevention of the disease will require measures to promote exercise and reduce obesity. Symptoms of adult type 2 diabetes can begin so gradually that a person may not be concerned at first. Symptoms include: excessive thirst, frequent urination, weight loss, increased appetite, unexplained fatigue, slow healing cuts, bruises, and wounds, frequent or lingering infections.

Until about 10 years ago, children who were diagnosed with diabetes typically had type 1, or juvenile-onset diabetes. However, more and more children today are being diagnosed with type 2. Although this is still a fairly infrequent occurrence, medical professionals are concerned because of the rise in childhood obesity.

Adult type 2 diabetes is a life long illness. The risk of getting it increases dramatically if you are overweight, lead a sedentary lifestyle and have a family history of the disease. It is important to have annual checkups with blood work and always be on the lookout for the symptoms.

John Richmond has done extensive research on adult type 2 diabetes and other diabetes topics. He is a frequent contributor to YourDiabetesInfo.com

Debt Problems - How to Escape Our Newest Epidemic That Doesn't Seem to Go Away

We go through most of our younger life watching our parents and the adults around us while learning through osmosis basically how to deal with money. It's not something that most school systems have really taught, and so we we're left to our own learning devices, which was basically good old mom and dad. Depending on how they handled their finances ends up steering us in the direction of where we go with ours... and sort of dictates whether or not we will end up with a debt problem of our own.

Even so things can sometimes go astray, no matter if we had the most conscientious parents in the world or not. Our problems with debt - though not always - are usually a direct indicator of our own personal money habits and discipline, much like most other things that we endure in life. It is tougher now to stay away from debt trouble however simply because of the ease of spending.

Plastic is the way to go now. Back when our parents were young adults they went to work, got their checks on Friday, went to the bank to deposit it, and kept what they needed in cash for the week and that was what they had to spend. There was no direct deposit nor were there debit cards.

Where we now get into a trouble with our problems with debt, is often due to the fact that plastic is now the common currency. Even commercials now cleverly show the guy in the donut shop who pays for his order in cash, interrupting a quickly paced musical ensemble of debit card and credit card users swiping away and jetting off. This is the view that we get from all sides now, where even McDonalds makes it easier than ever to buy a Big Mac and swipe right on through.

Even gas stations give you a prepaid card to just hold in front of the machine and gets scanned your amount, and sometimes it's even linked to your bank account. It's too easy to spend, and not no what the heck you've just spent on. That's why our debt problem has increased in this country and there seems to be no clear end in site.

Now that's not to say that a person's bad debt can't also be a direct effect of some other outside circumstance; many things can have a direct negative impact on our finances, and quickly too. For instance, if you lose your job and you don't have an emergency fund in place, then it doesn't take long for you to inherit a debt difficulty. If you get sick or injured and can't work, can't get Workman's Compensation, and/or don't have insurance that will pay your bills for you in these situations, then again, your problem has just increased ten fold. Things do happen but as I stated before, more often than not your negative financial status is usually a direct correlation of your spending, saving, and bill paying habits and discipline.

If you learn to keep track of you're spending by keeping a detailed list of everything that you spend on (down to the penny), set up an emergency fund to keep good ole Murphy from Murphy's law away, create a budget and stick to it; and set up some sort of payment plan - such as the snowball plan where you pay off the lesser debts first and apply those payments to the larger debts as they're paid - you will be able to rid your own problems without any outside assistance. This requires of course that you have an income coming in.

However, if none of the above works, and you are just sinking, and sinking fast, then you do have other options that you should know about.

One such option is to go through a credit counseling service. This is a service that will provide help in renegotiating your terms with your creditors - often yielding you a interest rate decrease, and keeping the vicious collection agencies out of your hair.

Your next more aggressive option is to obtain a debt consolidation loan, either secured (such as a home equity loan), or unsecured, where you take out a loan that covers them leaving you with only one more easy to handle monthly payment. These are options that are less drastic. Subsequently your next options are settlement where you negotiate a settlement price on your debts. This often time will decrease about 50% of the principal amount. Your last option is to get a lawyer and file for bankruptcy.

You should never make any decision without first evaluating what your actual amount of it is and tackle that. You can then begin to see a light at the end of the tunnel, and eventually kiss your debt problem goodbye.

Britons 'Do Not Know Personal Debt Figure'

Some six per cent of Britons do not know how much debt their personal loans, credit card debts and other forms of borrowing adds up to, according to the latest research from Unbiased, suggesting more than 2.5 million British consumers cannot quantify their total debt figure.

Research from the website - designed to emphasise the benefits of independent financial advice for consumers across the country - has reflected that young people aged between 18 and 24 years old may be the worst group when it comes to determining their indebtedness, with 41 per cent unaware of what their total debt figure is to within 500 pounds. For British consumers as a whole, some 15.4 million do not know within 100 pounds their total debt figure, Unbiased has revealed through its research.

The solutions people would use to pay off personal loans and other debt if they found themselves in a debt crisis have also been highlighted through the websites research. While just fewer than half (48 per cent) would turn to savings to repay debts should they face financial hardship, among the remaining people were listed what the company has referred to as worrying techniques for paying back the money they have borrowed. One in five would look to the government to support them in times of hardship, while 19 per cent would begin to sell possessions to repay debts. A further 20 per cent would look to sell their home to lighten the burden of personal loan debt and other borrowing.

Other recent research by the website showed that almost half (48 per cent) of 18 to 24-year-olds would spend an unexpected rise in income on either entertainment or clothes, something that has led to Unbiased calling this group Generation Spend.

David Elms, chief executive of Unbiased, offered that what the website has dubbed Generation Spend is not planning sufficiently for any harsh financial times: This research shows how little the UK consumer is budgeting and preparing for every eventuality. Generation Spend is allowing debt to dictate behaviour, rather than taking financial control and keeping a check on debts. Mr Elms added that tools such as a budget planner or the expert knowledge of an independent financial adviser could help resolve this issue.

The out-of-control borrowing highlighted by Unbiased is not something that has gone unnoticed in the past. Just last month, London Stock Exchange-listed company Alliance Trust revealed that, despite increasing economic pressure on British households through higher utility bills, consumers were still choosing to borrow big and spend bigger. This was something the company suggested meant that the message of more expensive living costs was not getting through to members of the public, with mortgage payments, council tax bills and household utility bills all climbing in the last quarter.

Unbiased.co.uk is the website of Independent Financial Adviser Promotion, a firm that has been running for 18 years. The company is sponsored by 30 product provider sponsors, including the likes of Clerical Medical and Prudential, and has around 9,000 independent financial advisers on its database that stretches across the UK.

Diabetes-Who's In Charge?

I have seen all too many times where the diabetic patient is waiting for someone to tell him what to do. That is a serious mistake. As a diabetic you need to take control and quickly grab a handle on what is happening. There are a lot of resources out there to help-the ADA, your local hospital, and of course the internet

You need a team of pros working together to provide support and professional advice, but it's up to you to follow through. As they say in the Navy "you have the con" or something like that.

Here are some tips to help you run the ship.

-Make a commitment to managing your diabetes. Learn all you can about your Diabetes. There are tons of resources out there. Ask your health care team for help if your best efforts aren't enough to control your blood sugar.

-Schedule a yearly physical. It's important to have a thorough physical exam every year in addition to your regular diabetes checkups. Check for complications of diabetes and screen for conditions such as cardiovascular and kidney diseases.

-Schedule a yearly eye exam. Make sure your eye care specialist knows you have diabetes. Check for signs of retinal damage and cataracts and test you for glaucoma.

-Take good care of your teeth and gums. People with type 2 diabetes are prone to gum infections. Brush and floss your teeth at least twice a day, and schedule twice-a-year dental cleanings.

-Keep your vaccinations current. Because high blood sugar can weaken your immune system, you may be more likely to get influenza or pneumonia. Get a yearly flu shot and vaccinations for pneumonia and hepatitis B.

-Take care of your feet. Diabetes can damage nerves in your feet, which reduces your ability to feel pain. You may develop a cut or other injury without realizing it. Diabetes reduces blood flow to your feet making it harder for sores to heal. Check your feet every day for blisters, cuts, and bruises, cracked or peeling skin, and redness or swelling.

-Don't smoke. People with diabetes who smoke are three times as likely to die of cardiovascular disease or stroke as are nonsmokers. Smoking also increases the risk of nerve damage and kidney disease. Talk to your doctor about ways to quit smoking.

-Avoid alcohol. Alcohol prevents the release of glucose from your liver and can increase the risk of your blood sugar falling too low. If you drink alcoholic beverages, do so only in moderation.

-Take a daily aspirin. Taking an aspirin every day after age 40 may reduce your risk of heart attack. There are risks too so talk with your doctor to make sure aspirin is safe for you and, if so, which strength you should take.

-Monitor your blood pressure. If you have diabetes, you're twice as likely to develop high blood pressure as you'd be if you didn't have the disease. The risk for blacks and Hispanics is even higher. The combination of diabetes and high blood pressure is serious because both conditions can damage your blood vessels, increasing your risk of heart attack, stroke and other life-threatening conditions.

-Monitor your cholesterol. Unhealthy levels of cholesterol and triglycerides can cause cardiovascular disease in anyone, with type 2 diabetes or without. But as with high blood pressure, the damage is usually worse and more rapid when you have diabetes.

-Learn to manage stress. Constantly dealing with stress can make it more difficult to take care of yourself and manage your diabetes. You may find yourself eating all the wrong foods or forgetting to exercise or take your medications. Prolonged stress can cause your blood sugar levels to rise even if you stick to your diet and medication plan.

Do your best to stay positive. You are in this for the long haul. You need all the help you can get from wherever you can get it. Diabetes is a serious illness, but it can be controlled. If you're willing to do your part, you can continue to enjoy an active and healthy life.

Too Much Soda Pop -Even Diet- May Increase Diabetes Risk

If you drink too much soda pop, either sugar-sweetened or diet, you may be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes or cardiovascular complications. This recent finding comes from a long-term study on cardiovascular disease in the United States.

Many people choose diet over sugar-sweetened beverages to reduce caloric consumption and associated weight gain. People with diabetes frequently must avoid sweetened soda pop due to its content of high fructose corn syrup which results in increases in blood glucose.

However, investigators with the Framingham Heart Study, a longitudinal cardiovascular outcomes study involving residents of the town of Framingham, Massachusetts, report that among over 5,000 middle-aged people, consumption of 1 or more diet soft drinks a day was associated with over 50% increased risk of developing metabolic syndrome, a clustering of risk factors for diabetes and cardiovascular disease that includes:

  • Increased waist size
  • Elevated blood sugar, blood pressure, and triglycerides
  • Low HDL (good) cholesterol

In this study, Framingham researchers administered a questionnaire on food and beverage consumption over 4 years. Study participants were asked to report their average number of 12-oz sweetened or diet soft drinks consumed per day including Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, or other caffeinated or decaffeinated beverages. People with cardiovascular disease or metabolic syndrome were not eligible for participation.

Over the course of the study, people who consumed 1 or more soft drinks (either diet or regular) a day were 44% more likely to develop metabolic syndrome.

People who consumed 1 or more sugar-sweetened beverages were at 62% greater risk for metabolic syndrome, but people who consumed only diet were not any less susceptiblethey were 53% more likely to develop metabolic syndrome than people who consumed less than 1 beverage a day.

Soft drink consumption was also associated with greater likelihood of having each risk factor for metabolic syndrome. People who consumed 1 or more soft drinks a day were:

  • 30% more likely to be obese
  • 25% more likely to have high blood sugar
  • 20% more likely to have high blood pressure
  • 25% more likely to have high triglycerides
  • 30% more likely to have low HDL cholesterol

The increased risk of metabolic abnormalities among people consuming diet beverages is a new finding. However, this does not necessarily mean that if you drink diet beverages you are going to develop metabolic syndrome. Importantly, this was an observational study which is not designed to determine a direct cause-effect relationship.

In any event maintaining a healthy diet and obtaining regular exercise should be priorities in reducing your risk for metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. A few dietary recommendations from the American Diabetes Association include:

  • Consumption of plenty of fruit and vegetables
  • Select whole grains over processed products
  • 2-3 servings of fish per week
  • Avoid saturated fats
  • Cut back on high-calorie snack foods
  • Limit portion sizes

Although the American Diabetes Association also recommends diet soda over sweetened, they also suggest more water consumption. Based on the findings from the Framingham study, the phrase everything in moderation may be prudent advice.
